What inspires me and why I chose art as my language?
Listen to my radio interview with WGVU NEWS: “All About Holland”
The paintings are done mostly in one session, in Alla Prima style, intuitive and genuine. Having lived on four continents, experiencing losses and hardships during the Soviet Russia reality and collapse, then immigration to the USA, all that life experience allows me to freely express myself without boundaries, in impressionistic way. My art could be bold, bright with strong texture, expressing my joy of life, or gentle, fluid and loose to respond to my philosophical and nostalgic nature.
I was born in Belorussian Soviet Republic into a military officer family. Then we lived five years in Moscow , during which my father got his second degree at the Military Academy. Then 30 years in Siberia. When I was 11 years old, my family moved to Cairo, Egypt and it was here that I began to develop a deep appreciation of cultures and art. Since that age, I fearlessly traveled around the world exploring all fifteen Soviet republics, Syria, Pakistan, India, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Egypt, Turkey, and many European countries. After receiving my Master’s Degree in Education with a major in English language and a minor in German, I was accepted to teach art in addition to languages in schools of Siberia, USSR. During the hard times of "perestroika" I immigrated with my two daughters to the USA.
After working nearly 30 years as a teacher and social worker, I decided to quit my job and fully devote myself to art in 2012.
Life Story Pt 1: “Why Not?”
The present situation in my Motherland brings me back to my past and reminds me again and again WHY I made the decision to leave everything and everyone behind...
This video briefly highlights the thread of my life, detailly described in my memoirs that yet to be published...
“The story that fuels her artwork and passion is just as captivating. She is currently working on a memoir that chronicles her unusual life, which began in the Belorussian Soviet Republic, took her to Cairo, then Siberia and, ultimately, to the Lakeshore, where she and her husband, Richard Dickson, created a fairy tale retreat.”
-Sally Laukitis, “Artist Alla Dickson's captivating story fuels passion, creativity”, The Lakeshore West Michigan.
What people are saying.

“Alla, You bring so much joy and positive energy into our world. I really don't know how you are able to call up all of the beautiful thoughts and actions, but your approach to life is a gift and a blessing. (Not all of us know how to do this, you know. Even when we try.)”
